Welcome back, everyone.
Monroeworld.com's forums always had SOME issues. Some people went away, new ones came, but the forums - while inactive - could stay open for the vast wealth of archived posts.
Unfortunately, a couple of years back, Monroeworld.com's forums were targeted by a nasty group out of China, hell bent on keeping Monroeworld.com off the map.
I know this, because within days of re-opening the forums (after fortifying security, adding new security measures - doing whatever I could) each and every time, this group retargetted the forums and flooded it with registration requests; more or less a Denial of Service type attack.
Being on a SHARED hosting environment (and I've been to them all) where they stuff 100+ people on every server, anytime one site gets hammered and starts using an unfair portion of CPU, memory and other resources, the hosting environment turns off the forums and issues a warning to me. After a couple of warnings, they shut down my hosting and I would have to move.
So, to keep from having to move ... again ... Inmotion Hosting asked me to bring the forums down and I complied.
Why here?
You guys know I'm no fan of ads or "free" services like this - but these guys host THOUSANDS of forums and their sole purpose in life is to keep Chinese trash out of the system.
The minimum fee to get rid of ads here is $6 a month. On top of that, if I want a real domain that doesn't look like this freeforums, it's $14 a year.
Before I put money into this, I want to make sure the forum starts thriving again. I'm focusing on my love of Android gaming to bring fresh blood and fresh perspectives to the forums. If the MW.com clans start coming back? I'd consider investing the $100 a year or so to keep it up and running.
Until then, feel free to install AdBlock in your browser - it clobbers all the ads on this forum
